Angelina Jolie put down thousands of dollars on the last typewriter Ernest Hemingway used before killing himself ... a $250,000 wedding gift for Brad Pitt.

Sources connected with the couple say ... Angelina's agent got in touch with L.A. Police Commission President Steve Soboroff, who has an unbelievable typewriter collection, including Hemingway's 1926 Underwood. 

Get this ... Hemingway used the typewriter for his works in the late 1930s, and "For Whom the Bell Tolls" was published in 1940.

We're told Jolie initially wanted to buy his Tennessee Williams typewriter but he wouldn't sell it. So then the agent asked if Soboroff would sell one of the 2 Hemingway typewriters he owned ... they offered a quarter of a million bucks and it was an offer he couldn't refuse.

We're told this summer the agent sent a deposit check from Angelina's production company -- Chivan Productions -- for $11,000, but at some point she had a change of heart and cancelled the deal. She didn't even ask for the money back, but we're told the check was returned.

Soboroff has a number of epic typewriters, including those owned by the Unabomber, John Lennon, Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio, and he just snagged Jerry Siegel's, who used the typewriter to create Superman.

Jay Leno Mocks Jimmy Fallon During 'Tonight Show' Return

Sure, it's called The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon now, but it was Jay Leno's show Friday night.

Leno made his return to Tonight for the first time as a guest since Jimmy Fallon took over — and he had plenty of fun challenging Fallon's masculinity and reminding fellow guest Lucy Liu that he was her "first" (late night host, that is). 

Leno recounted a story in which Fallon asked him for car advice, telling the car buff he wanted to buy an "old-timey" car. (Warning sign No. 1.) His tip to the younger comedian? Don't get a classic car, because you don't know how to work on them.

"Look at these hands ladies and gentlemen. That's like a puppy's paw," Leno said, holding up Fallon's hand to the camera. "This is the hand of a five-year-old and it's actually pink!"
 

When Lucy Liu came on, Leno hijacked the interview at times, telling Liu she could always talk to him if Fallon's interviewing skills were lacking.

Robin Williams's Autopsy Found No Illegal Drugs or Alcohol

 

The death of Robin Williams was ruled a suicide that resulted from asphyxia due to hanging, the coroner in Marin County, California, said Friday.

No alcohol or illegal drugs were found in the actor's body at the time of his death, according to the coroner. This confirms Williams's sobriety was intact, as he had publicly acknowledged struggles with substance abuse in the past. (He entered a rehab program shortly before his death, but it was not for a relapse.)

The autoposy results also showed that Williams had taken prescription medications (including two anti-depressants), but in "therapeutic concentrations."

The legendary comedian had been struggling with depression, anxiety, and a recent diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. However, the latest report also revealed Robin suffered from paranoia. According to his late wife, Susan Schneider, his anxiety and paranoia had increased in the last year. For example, the night before he died, Robin placed several wristwatches in a sock and gave them to someone for safekeeping.

Whoopi Goldberg has heard all the same scuttlebutt about tensions at "The View" you have, and she doesn't get it.

"You get four chicks and people expect you to fight," Goldberg told David Letterman when she stopped by "Late Show" on Thursday.

"Nobody ever asks those questions of the guys," she continued. "You get five guys on ESPN and maybe they're sniping at each other, but nobody says 'Aw, the dudes are fighting.'"

The current "View" lineup includes Goldberg, Rosie O'Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace. There have been reports online of tensions between the cast members, especially between Goldberg and O'Donnell.

The dog bit Alexia numerous times, but the worst was on her right hand ... where it bit through her thumb right to the bone.

'Ghostbusters' Stars Reunite On The Cover of 'Entertainment Weekly' And The 'Today' Show

In very depressing news for those of us feeling old, it’s now been 30 years since 1984’s Ghostbusters first graced the big screen.

In more exciting news, the director and some of the stars of that beloved comedy reunited for Entertainment Weekly's latest Reunions issue that hits stands Friday. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and director Ivan Reitman all donned the iconic logo again. (Sadly missing: the late and greatly missed Harold Ramis whose Egon Spengler is still one of the coolest movie Ph.D.’s ever.)

Speaking with Ghostbusters superfan Al Roker (he’s seen the movie over 100 times!) on Today, star Bill Murray recalled a very Bill Murray anecdote about making trouble on set.

"We had that damn car, and in the uniform, with the car, even the cops thought we were above them somehow," he remembered. "We would do a take where we’d have to drive the car, and after they yelled ‘Cut,’ we would just keep driving. We would just run around Chinatown, wherever we were, running red lights, going the wrong way on one-way streets, looking at people, saying, ‘Okay, alright, all clear here.’"

U.S. District Court Judge John Kronstadt denied Thicke and William’s motion for a court ruling stating that their hit "Blurred Lines" had not borrowed a number of elements from Gaye’s song. Kronstadt stated that Gaye’s family members "have made a sufficient showing that elements of 'Blurred Lines' may be substantially similar to protected, original elements of 'Got to Give It Up.'"

Christian Bale will not be Steve Jobs after all.

Sources say the actor has fallen off the Jobs biopic that is being directed by Danny Boyle.

The Sony project, which has a script by Aaron Sorkin and is being produced by Scott Rudin, Guymon Casady and Mark Gordon, was on track to begin shooting this winter for a quick turnaround.

Boyle is due in town this week to meet with actors and actresses for the movie. Seth Rogen is in discussions to play Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, but no official offer has been made. It is unclear how Bale’s departure will affect casting.

Jay Leno Is Back On 'The Tonight Show' For One Night Only

Jay Leno is coming back to the "Tonight Show" — at least for one night.

The show's former host will be a guest on Jimmy Fallon's version of "Tonight" on Friday. It will be the first time he's been back at the NBC institution since signing off after nearly 22 years as host last February.

Fallon moved the show from California to New York and quickly established himself as the new king of late-night TV.

Leno briefly appeared in one of Fallon's TV parodies, "House of Cue Cards," but has not returned as a guest.

There was some talk after Leno left that he might make a guest appearance on David Letterman's competing CBS show. That hasn't happened yet, but the "Late Show" said Leno has a "standing offer" to appear before Letterman retires next year.

Daredevil acrobat Nik Wallenda has done it again!

The high-wire artist successful completed his latest challenge high above the Chicago River Sunday night live on the Discovery Channel.

The first challenge featured Wallenda walking uphill at a 15-degree angle from the Marina City west tower to the top of a skyscraper on the other side of the Chicago River.

Soon after, he walked completely blindfolded between the two Marina City towers, memorable landmarks in Chicago.

"My life is inspiring people. How am I going to inspire people to never give up if I don't allow myself to become better?" he explained Sunday night. "It's very easy to become complacent when you've done something for seven generations…It's all about pushing myself."

Box Office: 'Nightcrawler' and 'Ouija' Currently Tied For First Place Over Halloween Weekend

“Ouija” and “Nightcrawler” are effectively tied for first place at the box office, providing a little excitement in an otherwise deadly Halloween weekend at the multiplexes.

Both films picked up roughly $10.9 million, but a clear leader will only be determined once final numbers come in on Monday. Whether the victor is “Ouija” or “Nightcrawler,” it will still be the lowest-grossing number one ranked film since the first weekend in September when “Guardians of the Galaxy” topped the box office with $10.4 million.
