Dennis Miller Gives His Santa Barbara Mansion A Nearly $4 Million Price Cut

Dennis Miller just reduced the price of his Santa Barbara mansion by nearly $4 million! The political commentator originally listed the property three years ago for $17.5 million, but now it's being offered for $13.9 million.

He and his wife Carolyn Espley bought the 10,000 square-foot Montecito home back in 1993, and decided to do a full renovation in 1994. The estate boasts 9 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, along with mountain and ocean views.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Sells 3.9 Million Discs

Lionsgate Films has announced that director Francis Lawrence's blockbuster The Hunger Games: Catching Fire has sold an estimated 3.9 million Blu-ray and DVD units in its first weekend of North American release (week of March 7). Blu-ray sales, in particular, represented 50% of all packaged-media sales. Blu-ray sales of the first Hunger Games film were approximately 35% of all packaged-media sales. According to the studio, digital sales of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire also grew approximately 40%.

Following the announcement Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate president and general manager of home entertainment sales & distribution said: "This is a monster opening and a tremendous result for the second film in a franchise, underscoring the enormous momentum of The Hunger Games films. Opening weekend packaged media sales of Catching Fire were comparable to the first Hunger Games title released nearly two years ago while digital sales grew by nearly 40 percent. With strong increases in digital revenue and Blu-ray accounting for 50 percent of packaged media sales, the opening weekend performance is driving significant margin growth and is a testament to the strength of the franchise."

Chris Brown Kicked Out Of Rehab, Headed To Jail

Chris Brown has been booted from the rehab facility where he has been living for the past four months and is on his way to jail, sources have reported. He was allegedly arrested in Malibu, via the Lost Hills Sheriff's Department.

The 24-year-old was first ordered into the treatment center for 90 days for anger management therapy. He completed the stint earlier this month, however a judge ordered the "Loyal" singer to stay two extra months while his Washington D.C. assault case is being resolved. In addition, the judge stated that if the felon left prior to the added 60 days, he would have to go to jail immediately -- which is exactly what appears to be happening right now.

Sources are saying that Brown was thrown out of the rehab facility earlier this morning, for violating "internal rules."  While Chris was sent away for his anger issues, the incident did not involve violence or drugs.

Despite being caught having "an inappropriate relationship" with a female worker earlier this month, the publication claims that this is not the reason for his dismissal today.

This isn't the first time the "Forever" crooner has been thrown out of a rehab facility. Previously, he was kicked out of a treatment center for throwing a rock at his mom's car window.  Classy move!

Reportedly, the L.A. County Sheriff's deputies have just picked up Chris and are en route to jail.

Sony, Panasonic Develop 300GB To 1TB 'Archival Disc' For 50 year-Plus Storage

 

Sony and Panasonic have developed a next-generation optical disc for enterprise storage with an initial capacity of 300GB. Dubbed the Archival Disc, it will have the same dimensions as current Blu-ray discs and will also be readable for at least 50 years.

The disc will have three layers per side. It’s expected to hit the market in 2015, with the initial capacity later expanded to 500GB and then 1TB.

The higher capacities will be achieved through signal-processing technologies including multi-level recording technology, the companies said.

Sony and Panasonic are pushing the optical discs for cloud service companies and archival services amid the explosion in online data. The companies will market the discs separately under their brands.

“As a type of archival media, optical discs have numerous advantages over current mainstream HDD and tape media, such as their ability to be stored for a long time while still maintaining readability,” a Panasonic spokesman said. “We hope to develop demand for archives that use optical discs.”

Man Known As Kissing Sailor In WWII-Era Image Dies

A man who became known for claiming he was the sailor kissing a woman in Times Square in a famous World War II-era photo taken by a Life magazine photographer has died. Glenn McDuffie was 86.

McDuffie died March 9 in a nursing home in Dallas, his daughter, Glenda Bell, told The Associated Press.

After World War II, McDuffie, who was born in Kannapolis, N.C., and moved to Houston in 1960, became a mail carrier and semi-professional baseball player.

But his life became more exciting about six years ago when Houston Police Department forensic artist Lois Gibson was able to identify him as the young man leaning over the woman in his arms to kiss her. By taking about 100 pictures of McDuffie using a pillow to pose as he did in the picture taken Aug. 14, 1945, by photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt, Gibson said, she was able to match the muscles, ears and other features of the then-80-year-old McDuffie to the young sailor in the original image.

"I was absolutely positive," Gibson said of the match. "It was perfect."

Get Used To Streaming, Discs Are Dead For Video After Blu-ray

Recent news from Sony and Panasonic about a new type of disc designed to hold up to 1 terabyte of data has the Internet buzzing about its implications. Could this be the piece of the puzzle we need to bring home 4K movies in the future? Do we need to trash our just-acquired Blu-ray players and drop more cash for next-generation boxes that spin next-generation discs? Will there be a new “format war?”

No, no, and no. The Blu-ray as we know it is the end of the road for the video disc. From here on out, the next innovations in home movie delivery will all surround streaming or digital downloads, and the announcement of these new discs only reinforces that.

Here’s why.

First, the disc announcement of so-called Archival Discs made absolutely no mention of using them for video. In fact, partners Sony and Panasonic went out of their way to distance themselves from the possibility. “The development is specifically for professional archiving,” a Panasonic spokesman told PCAdvisor. “We are not currently considering optical discs for household consumer use.” In other words, you won’t be able to buy Archival Disc players for your PC, much less for your TV.

Jimmy Fallon vs. Jimmy Kimmel: The New Late Night Fight, By The Numbers

Exactly one month into Jimmy Fallon's “Tonight Show” tenure, he's locked in a race with Jimmy Kimmel to be the new king of late night.

So far, he's ahead.

“The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” has handily beaten “Jimmy Kimmel Live” in ratings and viewers, in part because of curiosity about Jay Leno's replacement. His ratings were also bolstered by the Sochi Winter Olympics, Fallon's lead-in for his first week.

But the gap between the Jimmy's is narrowing.

In its debut week, “Tonight” topped “Kimmel” by 6.2 million viewers on average. Last week, the new host's third, the gap shrunk by 71 percent to 1.8 million viewers.

Last week was the second week straight in which Kimmel increased in total viewers (by 4 percent), hitting a 14-week high.

Kim Kardashian Stayed At Gianni Versace's Former Miami Mansion

She's back in Los Angeles now, but during her 36-hour stay in Miami this week, Kim Kardashian (along with her sisters Kourtney, Khloe and Kylie) shacked up at The Villa By Barton G. in South Beach. The mansion, which once belonged to famed fashion designer Gianni Versace, has changed hands quite a few times over the years, but these days it's a luxury hotel with ten bedroom suites, including the one that used to belong to Versace himself.

The 23,000-square-foot estate was once known as the Amsterdam Palace, and later the name was changed to Casa Casuarina. It first popped up on the market in 2012 for $125 million, a year later the price was reduced to $75 million and last fall the Nakash family bought the pad at an auction for $41.5 million. (They're the peeps behind Jordache jeans, FYI).

Reports are circulating that the couple are on the outs due to their hectic schedules, and that they are living separate lives and a split is imminent. The Oscar winner and the French actor haven't been seen together publicly since December, and the actress stepped out to a post-Oscars party on March 2 without her wedding bauble.

They pair welcomed son Maceo last October, and if we had to guess we would assume the stress of new parenthood isn't helping their relationship either.

Malaysian Plane Cell Tower Could Be The Key In Mysterious Disappearance

A cell tower in Kota Bharu could be the missing puzzle piece in the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 last weekend.

There's a theory ... the aircraft doubled back over Malaysia after it began to cross the South China Sea, and crashed off the opposite coast instead ... somewhere in the Malacca Strait.

Malaysian officials have rejected the theory -- but if it's true (as some still believe) the plane would have passed over the city of Kota Bharu, which contains a powerful Celcom cellular phone tower.

Credible mobile analysts tell sources, if the plane flew over the tower there's a high likelihood the tower would contain data transmitted by cell phones inside the aircraft ... if the phones were on.

Roughly 30% of passengers leave their phones ON during flights -- this according to published reports.

So ... the cellular tower could be the critical piece of evidence to either prove or disprove the U-turn theory.

Hal Douglas "Voice of Movie Trailers" Dies At 89

 

Chances are you don't recognize his face, but you definitely know his voice.

It is the sound of Saturday matinees. Of action films. Heart-wrenching dramas. And slapstick comedies. The promise of another world.

The sad news arrived today that Hal Douglas, one of Hollywood's most prolific voiceover artists, died last Friday at his home in Lottesville, Virginia.

The 89-year-old legend, who continued to work steadily until just two years ago, succumbed to pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Francis Douglas; his daughter, Sarah; and two sons, Jeremy and Jon.

Douglas was one of the most recognizable voices in the industry for decades, with a rough-and-low baritone so deep, it evoked the voice of god — or at least someone of supreme authority.

Jay Leno Gets Inducted Into TV Hall of Fame

Bill Maher took advantage of pal Jay Leno's Television Academy Hall of Fame induction to offer a spirited attack on what Maher called undeserved "bad publicity" for the former "Tonight Show" host.

Introducing Leno at the 23rd annual induction ceremony on Tuesday night, Maher said his behavior never warranted the criticisms tossed at him over Conan O'Brien's short-lived tenure as "Tonight Show" host.

"Jay Leno reminds me a little bit of Israel," Maher said. "He's not perfect, but he's held to a standard nobody is expected to live up to but him." Maher alleged that the media helped fan the myth that Leno "stole Conan's dream" when NBC brought Leno back to host "Tonight" after the show's ratings dropped in 2009 with O'Brien at the helm.

Maher, host of HBO's "Real Time," used an expletive to dismiss the idea that such a theft is possible, then offered himself as a tongue-in-cheek example: He claimed that Tom Cruise robbed him of the starring role in "Top Gun."

Leno's reputation among critics as a bland host compared with his supposedly "edgy" predecessor Johnny Carson also is a falsehood, Maher said, and called Leno suited to his time just as Carson was when he hosted "Tonight."

'Little People' Big Split: We've Separated

"Little People, Big World" couple Matt and Amy Roloff can't stand living together anymore -- they've just announced they're separating after 26 years of marriage.

Sources close to the couple say, Matt and Amy have been living separately since the holidays -- Amy currently resides in the family's main house in Oregon ... Matt lives in the guest house.

We're told neither Amy nor Matt is currently pursuing other relationships -- they're just testing the waters living alone ... for now anyway. So far, divorce isn't on the table.

Matt has had a history of drinking problems -- such as his 2007 DUI -- but we're told alcohol was NOT an issue in the split.

The Roloffs -- who have 4 children -- released a statement, saying, "Though we have weathered many storms together, we recently made the tough decision to engage in a trial separation."

Chris Pine Busted For DUI In New Zealand

Chris Pine was popped for DUI after blowing through a sobriety checkpoint and then allegedly blowing a .08.

Pine had been partying at a bar in New Zealand with some fellow actors and his girlfriend, beauty queen Iris Bjork Johannesdottir.

Law enforcement says... he caught their eye after driving through the checkpoint. Officers then made him stop and Chris reportedly blew a .08 ... the minimum for being legally drunk.

The incident occurred on March 1st. He must appear in court on Monday, and if he doesn't the judge will issue an arrest warrant.

Chris was his usual charming self ... very polite and "easy to deal with."

Khloe and Kourtney Film Crew Suspected in Thefts

The Kardashians have a Benedict Arnold on their TV show ... a thief ... a jewelry thief ... at least that's what law enforcement sources believe.

$250,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom's former Tarzana home, and $50,000 cash was pilfered from Kourtney's Calabasas mansion.

Law enforcement sources say... whoever stole Khloe and Lamar's jewelry knew exactly what they were looking for.  The thief or thieves took only the very expensive items, leaving the rest behind.  They knew exactly where to look and what to take.

What makes it look like even more of an inside job ... there was NO sign of forced entry at either home.

Law enforcement sources believe someone from the crew of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" is the culprit. 

We're told crew members are being questioned, but so far no one has copped to the crimes.

President Obama Tapes 'Funny or Die' Interview With Zach Galifianakis

Zach Galifianakis brought the ferns, and President Barack Obama opened a new avenue of presidential communication.

The president urged young people to sign up for the new health care plan through an appearance posted Tuesday on the comic website Funny or Die, bypassing the news media and even previous favorites like TV talk-show titans Jimmy Fallon and David Letterman. Instead, he chose to be a guest on Galifianakis' "Between Two Ferns," the digital short with a laser focus on reaching people ages 18 to 34.

The video reached 1 million views within three and a half hours of posting, and was adding more at a pace of 1 million per hour in the middle of the day, according to Funny or Die. The website was briefly the number one source of referrals to Healthcare.gov, the Obama administration said, with some 14,000 people navigating directly from the video to the health care website in the first few hours.

Shiva Safai may be the newest addition to the "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills".

The brunette beauty is engaged to real estate mogul Mohamed Hadid, who is Yolanda Foster's ex-husband and Lisa Vanderpump's close friend.

"It would be interesting -- a fun adventure if it were to happen." Safai said of the show. "We'll see what happens."

When asked if her fiance would support her joining the show, she said, "He would support me in anything I want to do. But, of course, it's something we need to talk about and agree to. If it happens, it happens."

News of the possible addition of Safai comes on the heels of another major shake-up.

The couple was spotted chatting and walking their dogs Monday in Los Angeles almost five months after McPhee was photographed kissing also-married director Michael Morris.

At the time of scandal, it was revealed that McPhee and Cokas had been separated and "living apart" for months. Yet, the Shark Night actress still felt "embarrassed" that her relationship with Morris had been revealed.

The Smash director, who has been married to Mary McCormack for 10 years, was reportedly kicked out of his house when pictures of the affair came out, but the couple seem to have reconciled since.

Richard Branson Renting Out Luxury Yacht For $110,000 A Week

Richard Branson's 105-foot Necker Belle yacht can be yours to rent ... that is, if you're prepared to pony up a minimum of $110,000 a week.

The sailing catamaran was built in 2003 by French Shipyard CMN, and when Branson purchased the vessel in 2007 he sent it to Azzura Yachts in Australia for a two-year rebuild job. From the posh interiors to an underwater exploring vehicle (more on that later), this boat has just about everything you could want!

The Necker Belle holds 10 guests in 4 staterooms, including a master suite, 1 double cabin and 2 twin cabins, and there is also room for 6 crew members. There are hardwood floors throughout the vessel, a bar, indoor and outdoor dining areas and the bedrooms are quite spacious. Miley Cyrus performed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on Sunday night, and while she usually wears this sparkly underwear set with a pair of red chaps, something happened and Miley wasn't able to put together her outfit in time.

“not a new outfit for 23," Miley tweeted. "I didn’t make my quick change and I couldn’t not come out for the song so I just had to run out in my undies :( Never happened to me before. But I love my fans as much as they love me! I couldn’t miss 23 ... Show must go on :(”

Charlie Sheen No-Show Delays 'Anger Management' Production

The star of FX’s Anger Management has missed several days of work in recent weeks, according to sources. The absences have forced the show’s studio, Lionsgate, to push production beyond what was planned and to use stand-ins for the actor in certain scenes. The moves are said to have angered many of Sheen's fellow cast members. One source says the Anger cast is threatening to stop working if the absences persist.

A Lionsgate spokesperson declined to comment on the situation. Sheen's publicist could not be reached. Lionsgate and FX made waves in 2012 by greenlighting Anger Management on the 10/90 model, where 10 episodes of a series are tested and then expanded to 100 episodes if they meet a certain ratings threshhold. Sheen had struggled with substance abuse and famously was fired from his former hit sitcom Two and a Half Men, leading some to wonder whether he could be counted on to perform in 100 episodes of television. Anger now is about two thirds of the way through its 100-episode order, with shooting scheduled to finish this fall. The current delays are not expected to push the overall end date.

Sources say Sheen has performed as usual when he is on set but several people associated with Anger Management speak of his erratic behavior of late. His odd appearance on Jay Leno’s final week of The Tonight Show in February had some questioning the newly engaged actor’s state. He is said to have had recent health issues, including a vocal chord problem, which is said to have contributed to his absences.

Box Office: '300: Rise of an Empire’ Takes Top Spot With $45 Million

Over-the-top ancient Greek battle gore and the sultry heroine Eva Green powered “300: Rise of an Empire” to the No. 1 spot at the domestic box office with a $45 million opening weekend. The R-rated sword-and-sandals saga held off the challenge of a very different history trip.

“Mr. Peabody & Sherman,” the DreamWorks  Animation family film about a time-traveling genius dog and his young charge that debuted with a better-than-expected $32.5 million. The two wide openers dropped the Liam Neeson jetliner thriller “Non-Stop” out of the top spot and into third with $15.3 million.
