NBC Rewrites History To Promote Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Tonight’ Debut

NBC wants Jimmy Fallon to succeed so badly when he takes over its venerable “Tonight Show” in February that it is attempting to bend the rules of time.

In a promo unveiled Saturday evening, the Peacock depicts Fallon as the latest in the decades-old program’s line of memorable hosts. A succession of graphics lists the famous names: Steve Allen. Jack Paar. Johnny Carson. Conan O’Brien, Jay Leno.

The problem? Leno has hosted the show before O’Brien did. Indeed, the veteran host has enjoyed  two separate “Tonight” runs, from 1992 to 2009, as Johnny Carson’s successor, and again starting in 2010, after a General Electric-controlled NBCUniversal attempted to move Conan O’Brien into the “Tonight” chair while keeping Leno affiliated with the network by placing him to a 10 p.m. time slot five days a week. The ill-fated effort sparked outcry from NBC affiliates who thought low ratings for Leno’s 10 p.m. roost were wiping away viewership for late local news, a large contributor to stations’ ad revenue. As a result, Leno returned to “Tonight” and O’Brien left the network altogether.

‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ Wins Big With National Society of Film Critics

Inside Llewyn Davis,” Joel and Ethan Coen’s darkly comic odyssey set against the 1960s New York folk-music scene, swept the National Society of Film Critics’ top prizes on Saturday, winning awards for picture, director, actor Oscar Isaac and cinematography.

The Coens’ film has gone largely unrecognized by critics’ groups this season, apart from a picture prize from the Toronto Film Critics Assn. The New York Film Critics Circle gave its top award to “American Hustle,” while the Los Angeles Film Critics’ Assn. split its honors between “Gravity” and “Her.”

Charlize Theron and Sean Penn Fuel Dating Rumors

Is there a romance brewing between Sean Penn and Charlize Theron?

Rumors that the Oscar-winning actors have taken their friendship to the next level continue to swirl following their joint Hawaiian vacation.

On Thursday morning, Penn, 53, and Theron, 38, were photographed leaving the actress's house separately after touching down at LAX together the night before. The duo spent New Year's Eve on the island of Oahu.

Both Theron and Penn were spotted on the beach in Waikiki near where "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" actor has a home, enjoying some down time together (and flaunting their fit figures). Charlize’s two-year-old son, Jackson, was not along for the trip.

But before anyone goes splashing a "New Couple Alert!", it may be too soon to tell if this is anything serious, seeing as the actors have known each other for years and have even hung out together with significant others. Still, Sean and Charlize fueled dating speculating after they were supposedly getting flirty at Seth MacFarlane's Christmas party last month.

While Theron has been linked to a few men, including the “Family Guy” creator, her last serious relationship was with Stuart Townsend, whom she dated for nine years until January 2010.

Penn has dated a bevy of beauties, including Scarlett Johansson, since splitting with his ex-wife Robin Wright in 2010.

Chris Pine Says Being Around Lindsay Lohan On Just My Luck Was "A Real Cyclone Of Insanity"

Chris Pine covers the new issue of The Hollywood Reporter, and he chats about everything from his growing career to President Obama to Lindsay Lohan.

It seems like ancient history, but Pine and Lohan worked together on the 2005 film Just My Luck, where Lilo nabbed a $7 million-plus paycheck for her role while Pine was pretty much making his big screen debut.

Over the years their lives have seemingly reversed -- Pine has starred in the highly-profitable Star Trek franchise and he'll appear next in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, while Lilo is making her money with ... club appearances and reality television (well, a docu-reality series, if you want to get nit picky). So what does the actor remember about working with a then 18-year-old Lohan, who was already getting being hounded by the press?

"It was a real cyclone of insanity, like being around The Beatles," Pine recalls. "It was fascinating to watch, and in hindsight it's really a distinct moment in someone's life when you see what's really wonderful about what we get to do and what's really dangerous about it."

THR reports that production on Just My Luck was shut down at least once because of starlet's antics, and though Pine was new to the fame game, he steered clear of Hurricane Lilo and all that she represented. "Hollywood is like living in a weird bubble," he says. "A bunch of people take care of you and get you stuff, and you're the center of that little microcosmic world. You start believing that it is real and … you deserve it."

Stars Ring In 2014 Across The Country

Whether they were in New York, Los Angeles on Las Vegas, celebs went all out for New Year's Eve!

Mariah Carey performed on the NBC New Year's Eve special hosted by Carson Daly, and she squeezed her curves into a sexy white dress and struck a pose with hubby Nick Canon. Nick couldn't even be bothered with looking at the camera, as he seemed rather captivated by his wife's cleavage! Mariah wrote, "Happy New Year!!!! 'You like this and you know it.'"

Taylor Swift threw a girls' night at her LA home, and BFF Selena Gomez wasn't there, but Modern Family cutie Sarah Hyland attended the bash and posed for a pic with the hostess.

Meanwhile, Paris and Nicky Hilton went big in Las Vegas, with Miss P DJing at Hyde Bellagio. She tweeted, "Can't wait to rage with you all Tonight at @HydeBellagio! It's going to be an insane night! #YES!" She may have had to work for a little bit, but a source close to P recently told TMZ that she makes between $100,000 and $350,000 per HOUR when she plays a set. Totally worth being on the clock on NYE, if you ask us!
