Do the Right Thing director Spike Lee has just listed his massive 8,292-square-foot Manhattan townhouse for a hefty $32 million, which is quite the upsell from the $16.6 million he paid for the five-bedroom home in 1998. The East Side home, known as the "Hatch House" boasts a bevy of amenities including three original-detail fireplaces with "superb mantels," a "charming fenestrated breezeway," and an interior courtyard. The Spanish-style residence, located on E. 63rd, also includes library, staff quarters and an elevator.

The home, originally designed by architect Frederick J. Sterner and completed in 1920, has had a slew of celebrity owners. William Vanderbilt originally sold the land for the home for $85,000 and gave it as a wedding gift to his daughter Barbara Rutherford. Famed Broadway producer Charles B. Dillingham then bought it in 1921. Three years later, a Wright brothers collaborator and aeronautical engineer, Charles Lanier Lawrance bought the place in 1924.

After that, legendary burlesque dancer Gypsy Rose Lee owned the home and thew wild parties at the location. The wild woman lived there until 1970. Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis purchased the home in 1998 from artist Jasper Johns.
