Sherri Shepherd Says She’s Not Paying Child Support For Surrogate Child
As if the situation weren’t messy enough, TV personality Sherri Shepherd is refusing to pay child support for the child she and estranged husband Lamar Sally agreed to have via surrogate.
Sources are reporting that Shepherd is refusing to pay support since she believes the surrogacy was a set up by Sally in the first place so that he could make a come up from the child support. Sources close to the couple are saying Shepherd no longer wants custody or to even be considered a parent and get stuck with massive child support payments.
Sally and Shepherd recently filed separate court docs to end their marriage.
The baby is due this month to a surrogate who signed a contract with the couple. The baby is said to have been created with Lamar’s sperm and an egg of the surrogate’s meaning Shepherd has no biological ties to the child. Sources say initially Shepherd opted for in-vitro, but once that was unsuccessful her and Lamar explored surrogacy.
Shepherd is refusing any rights or responsibilities towards the child. She has filed for divorce in New Jersey, while Sally has filed in California. Another twist? After some research, sources discovered that New Jersey courts generally do not recognize surrogacy agreements, while California law is somewhat different.
We understand that Shepherd doesn’t want to get taken for a fool, but people really need to consider the decisions they are making and stop using these children (unborn or otherwise) as pawns. There are more important things than money and whether you’re making babies the old-fashioned way or via medical advancements, you really have to consider who you’re procreating with. We hope these two can come to an agreement in the best interest of the child.
