Carmageddon is Over: 405 Reopens Early on Sunday
Carmageddon turned out to be much ado about nothing (as predicted). More surprisingly crews got their work done on the old Mulholland bridge earlier than expected.
On Sunday morning L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced that the 405 freeway between the 10 and 101 freeways would reopen at 11:30 a.m.
According to what Mayor V. told reporters at the scene:
The 10 and 101 connections would open first, then offramps, then onramps. The shutdown for the Mulholland bridge work had been expected to last until 6 a.m. Monday morning and, it was feared, might even bleed into the Monday morning rush.
It's all over! Sort of. Another Carmageddon is scheduled for next summer ... so crews can finish the second-half of the bridge destruction and replacement work.
