The Dark Knight has returned again — and this time with a sweet new ride.
On Tuesday morning, director Zack
Snyder released the first official photo of Ben Affleck in costume as
Batman, standing alongside his new Batmobile, from the upcoming "Man of
Steel" sequel. The black-and-white shot shows the new Batsuit, which
appears more sculpted and comic-book-like than the armor-plated version
worn by Christian Bale.
The suit hearkens back to Michael
Keaton's, with its chisled muscles and cowl attached to the cape. It
also has smaller ears and a much larger bat-symbol across the chest than
previous iterations. Affleck does, though, stand in the same clenched
fist and lowered head pose favored by Bale.
Affleck's Batmobile has combined
elements of both the Tim Burton and Christopher Nolan film series. The
vehicle has the giant off-road tires and heavy armor of the Tumbler from
Nolan's trilogy, but with smoother lines and big fins recalling the
Burton movies. The driver appears to sit in a closed canopy with sliding
panels, like the previous movie version have featured. Ultimately, the
new Caped Crusader car seem to straddle the line between the utilitarian
functionality of the Nolan vehicle with the more stylized elements from
Burton.
Snyder took the photograph
himself with a Leica M Monochrom, a digital black-and-white camera known
for its high resolution and ultra-sharp images. Synder previously
released the first photo of Henry Cavill in his Superman outfit right
before filming began on "Man of Steel." Sources have said
that production is close to commencing in Detroit and cameras will soon
roll on the sequel that brings the two DC Comics heroes together. In the
coming days we should be getting our first looks at Gal Gadot as Wonder
Woman and Ray Fisher as Cyborg, the two other comics characters who
will be debuting in the film.
