Larry Wilmore To Replace Stephen Colbert On Comedy Central

Comedy Central has announced that comedy performer and writer Larry Wilmore will succeed Stephen Colbert in the 11:30 p.m. time period at the network, the New York Times reports.

The comedic scripted show, The Minority Report with Larry Wilmore, will include a panel of voices discussing topics of the day, but won't just focus on minority issues. The concept itself was created by The Daily Show's Jon Stewart and his production company, Busboy Productions.

"[It will] provide an opportunity for the underrepresented voices out there," Comedy Central's president Michele Ganeless said. "We are so excited to have a fresh idea for late night."

Wilmore, 52, has previously written for hit shows like The Office, The Bernie Mac Show, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, In Living Color, and The Jamie Foxx Show. The Emmy award-winning writer will officially begin his hosting duties in January 2015 once Colbert leaves to succeed David Letterman as Late Show's host.
